Puccini’s tragic story of love and heartbreak, in turn-of-the-century Nagasaki, where American naval officer B.F. Pinkerton has chosen delicate Cio-Cio-san to be his bride. A naïve young girl on the cusp of womanhood, the love stricken and fiercely loyal "Butterfly" dismisses warnings of the Pinkerton’s ulterior motives. Callous betrayal inevitably strikes, and Butterfly must endure both shame and sorrow, but she decides to take destiny into her own hands--leading to one of the most devastating and legendary final scenes in the repertoire.
